Egan080's Review and Opinion: One of the central questions posed by George Lucas's Star Wars saga is "How can a good man like Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight, become an agent of evil as villainous as Darth Vader?"
Considering what an iconic villain Vader had been in the Classic 1977-1983 Trilogy, it certainly was a question worth examining, and the answers were very interesting - if somewhat controversial to many fans.
By choosing to portray Anakin in Episode I as a loving and generous nine-year-old with one big weak spot - the fear of losing loved ones, Lucas paved the way for his next incarnation: a gifted 19-year-old Jedi Knight whose big Achilles Heel is his own heart.
Say what you will about the annoying Jar Jar Binks or that the acting in these movies is wooden, but it is fascinating to note that Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker starts down the dark path to his Vader persona because he loves too much. Watch his reaction to his mother's death in this one and ask yourself what would you have done in his place.
Another issue that is very relevant in Attack of the Clones, the second of six Episodes in the Star Wars saga, is "How does a democracy become a dictatorship?" No, there are no big lectures about the topic in the movie - unless one turns on the director's commentary track on the DVD - but the film does show how Supreme Chancellor Palpatine takes advantage of a political crisis to consolidate his grip on power in the Galactic Senate.
While some of the dialogue is fairly cheesy and the sparring between young Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi does sometimes get annoying, Episode II does set up the Clone Wars and the final act pretty nicely. It's perhaps not as good as The Empire Strikes Back, say, but it's not as bad as, er, Jaws 4.

Like Episode I, this is a CGI-rendered film, but it still looks good. |

Acting was a bit wooden, but it resembles that of 30s serials, which sort of fits the genre. |

Though the 2002 film is not as fresh as the 1977-83 Trilogy was, this one has more action than Episode I |
