Egan080's Review and Opinion:
I'm not a big fan of raunchy comedies, and I'm somewhat tired of cliches about guys in their late 30s and early 40s who can't get laid because they're geeks and collect stuff, but Judd Apatow's The 40 Year Old Virgin won me over when I saw it on DVD last year.

Chalk it up to the charming performances by The Office's Steve Carell and a great supporting cast, including Catherine Keener, Seth Rogen, and Paul Rudd.

Sure, it's raunchy as all get out in dialogue, and some of the visuals are, if not pornographic visually, at least very suggestive. (The scene where Beth is pleasuring herself in the tub, for one, comes very easily to mind) But it's also sweet-natured and heart-warming, and the relationship between the virginal Andy and the divorced Trish is believable and fetching.

Visual Aspects      95.00%

Nicely done and shot. The Circuit City-like store looked real!

Auditory Aspects      80.00%

Good sound design. Nice choice of music, too.

Cinematography      100.00%

Nicely photographed. Didn't have any distracting goofs

Plot/story      86.67%

Man, I love this movie. Sure, it's formulaic and all, but much of it was improvised.

Character      75.00%

Andy was totally believable, if a bit exaggerated in some bits. The other guys were also believable if a bit over the top.

Acting      100.00%

A bit broad-humored, but the acting was decent.

General      83.33%

Ha! Funny as hell, this movie is. Loved the "How do you know you're gay?" bit.
Synopsis:
Goaded by his buddies, a nerdy guy who's never "done the deed" only finds the pressure mounting when he meets a single mother.
